Metamora/Hadley Lodge History 

 

Hadley Lodge No. 210 was granted a charter in January of 1867 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Michigan. At a meeting on August 6, 1894, ten Brothers; Lewis Y. Struble, Charles J. Hurd, William J. Aldrich, Samuel Snover, John Wilder, Oren C, Thompson, Mark N. Kelley and Gary Briggs of Hadley Lodge No. 210 petitioned the Grand Master of Masons of Michigan to form a lodge in Metamora, Michigan.

After all necessary requirements had been complied with and the Lodge and ante-rooms, established a dispensation was granted on February 1, 1885 with Brother Charles J. Hurd to be the first Worshipful Master, Brother James O. Lewis to be the first Senior Warden and Brother Samuel Snover to be the first Junior Warden.

The first communication was held on Thursday evening February 7, 1885. After one year of successful operation a Charter was granted under the date of January 29, 1886.

In March 1981, Hadley Lodge No. 210 presented a letter to Metamora Lodge No. 413 concerning a merger of the Lodges. In June 1981, the Grand Master issued a dispensation merging both lodges into one lodge to be known as Metamora/Hadley No. 210, F. & A.M.

 

About Our Lodge Building

At its inception, the Lodge occupied the second floor of Wilder Bros. corner store building (today the building is known as the "Salt Box"). In the fall of 1903, arrangements were made with Brother Alva H. Barnes giving the Lodge the right to erect a second story for Lodge rooms on this new store building, then under construction.

On September 6, 1942, Brother Marion H Barnes, co-owner of the building, passed away. In his last will and testament he bequeathed his portion of the building to the trustees of the Lodge. The deed conveying this portion of the building to the Lodge trustees was executed August 26, 1946.
